Baía da Salga, which corresponds to the Salga Bathing Zone, is a bay located on the south coast of the island of Terceira, in the parish of São Sebastião, municipality of Angra do Heroísmo.
It is a historic bay as it was the scene of the famous Battle of Salga, a fight fought on July 25, 1581 between a Castilian military landing force and troops who, in the name of D. António I of Portugal, pretender to the throne of Portugal, they defended the island of Terceira in opposition to the personal union with Castile, in the context of the succession crisis of 1580.
